About SUSE
The University Today

SUSE is one of the finest universities in St. Petersburg and the North-West region of Russia. Over the past 40 years, The University’s multi-faceted history, modern, large-scale research projects, and innovative development have combined to make it one of Russia’s top institutions of higher education in the field of science. SUSE maintains contact with many other colleges and universities in Europe, America, and Asia.
Brief Historical Background

The historical roots of The Saint Petersburg State University of Service and Economics go back to September 16, 1969, with the opening of The Leningrad Branch of The Moscow Technological Institute of Domestic Service. At that time, it was an institute of part-time training with only four specialties, but soon, due to the growing demands of society, it broadened its mission to train more highly qualified professionals - not only for Leningrad enterprises, but for the entire North-West region of Russia.
The Institute began to provide full-time training for its students in 1990, and subsequently, in 1993, became The Technological Institute of Service. In 1999, it achieved independent status and was renamed The St. Petersburg State Institute of Service and Economics (SISE). In 2002, by order of The Ministry of Education, the Institute was elevated to the position of an Academy (SPbSASE), and finally, in 2005, it became the Saint Petersburg State University of Service and Economy, commonly known as SUSE.
